HERE ARE A FEW TIPS FOR SELF-PUBLISHERS

  • If you are going to publish your book in paperback/hardback and in ebook format, you need a separate ISBN number for the hard copy and for the ebook formatted book.

  • You may wonder if you need to purchase a barcode for your self-published book. Normally,  you shouldn't have to buy a barcode because the majority of print-on-demand printing companies will provide a barcode to you for free. If you are concerned, just ask the printer when you contact him or her if they provide a free barcode for you.

  • ISBN is the acronym for International Standard Book Number and it's a 13-digit number that usually appears near the barcode on the back of your book.

  1. You can get your ISBN from Bowker, which is the usual place to purchase it.

  2. You can let the self-publishing company you are using purchase it for you. If they do that then they become the publisher of your work.

It is best to do your research before beginning the publishing process. Ask the printer about any marketing packages they offer, if you don't already have a marketing company or marketing plan. Be certain that you're satisfied with those providing services for your book before you commit to them.

Remember, it's your unique work and your dream.  Remember, too, that before you even get to that point you'll need a second pair of eyes to make sure of your work's style, clarity, logic and its organization. That's where I come in. I'm the right editor for you. So keep calm and hire me.
